Paraphrase: During this time period in our history, called the Antebellum period, gave way to the industrial revolution. This caused a great increase in economy and development. Also, transportation during this time gained America the wealth it needed to get back on its feet after the devastation of the war.

In this chart you can see all the troops who served in the Civil War, and deaths on and off the battlefield. It shows you how many people stayed loyal to theUnion and how many thought the Confederacy was the way to go. it also shows that, unfortunately, the Union lost more soldiers than the South.

Paraphrase: When Lincoln was elected president this caused South Carolina, along with many others to secede from the union under his presidency. They created their own, "country" and waged war on the Union. However, after the war the ammendment for the freedom of slaves was produced.

Paraphrase: A mass number of people took part in the Civil War which was about three million if you combine all the men on both sides. Many of which were young some of which were only forteen years of age!

Blog Project Status

At this point in the project I have made it to the wordle with the exceptions of the animoto that I have had problems with. I currently like this more than a standard paper. The format of this site is easy to understand, also. At this point a more detailed explanation on the wordle and animoto video would be the most help. Right now I am not having problems, technical wise, more of comprehension. I could, to make this easier, reread the instructions or I could just try to focus more.

This website, apart from the others, is separated into two areas, union and confederate. This gave me plenty of information that was needed.

What I want to learn

As i begin to work on this project, I have many questions im asking. I hope that by studying this some of them, if not all will be answered. As of now my over all question is, "What do the books about the Civil War tell us about that time period?" Seeing as though this is a wide search I hope that by breaking it up into five questions maybe this will help widen my knowledge.

1. Did the slaves who joined the war make the difference in the outcome of it?
2. Why did more soldiers die of infections rather than the wounds themselves?
3. Did the Anaconda Plan cause the soldiers of the Confederacy want to surrender? Why?
4. How did Sherman's march break the will of the confederates?
5. If General Lee hadn't surrendered would the war have ended in someone elses favor?

What I already know

After spending at least ten years learning about the Civil War the info I have gathered in my mind is abundant. I know much about the generals, or leaders, who led the soldiers to the fights. I also know about the families who had members in the war and what things they faced. The houses were sometimes divided and sometimes when they divide they could potentially stay that way. There were many hardships afterwards because of the lack of materials needed for reconstruction.

The story behind my topic choice

As far back as I can remember I always strived to learn more about the Civil War. Every book I have ever read about it has made me want to keep reading on and on and on. I guess the reason for me being intrigued in it is that history is my strongest area and because it's just so easy to understand. My family has often told me, "Take a break and come associate with the everyone!" I consider this subject to be the most historical of all things and should be taught more. What are the possible outcomes that could have happened? Or, why did some slaves continue to work for their former owners after being freed? These are just a few of all the things that could be taught with more depth. I hope that this will be answered and some other things that I'm asking will be as well.
